Invitation for Prequalification

1. This Invitation for Prequalification follows the General Procurement Notice for this project that appeared in ADB's Business Opportunities on 10 November 2006. The eligibility rules and procedures of ADB will govern the prequalification and the bidding process.

2. Government of Nepal has received a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) towards the cost of Melamchi Water Supply Project.

3. The Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (hereinafter referred to as the "Employer") intends to prequalify firms for the following contract under this project:
Construction of Headworks and 27 Km long Diversion Tunnel From Timbu (Ribarma) at Melamchi valley to Sundarijal outlet Portal in Kathmandu Valley.

4. It is expected that the Invitation for Bids will be made in March 2007.

5. Ministry of Physical Planning and Works is the Executive Agency for the Project and Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (MWSDB) is the Implementing Agency. Interested eligible Applicants may obtain further information from the Implementation Agency, the MWSDB and inspect the Prequalification Document at the address given below, from 10.00 to 15.00 hours.

6. The Prequalification Document, in the English language, may be purchased by interested Applicants on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon payment of a nonrefundable fee of NRs. 7,500 or US $100. The method of payment will be by Bank Draft or cash deposit in the Employer's account A/c No. 01-1000918-01 at Standard Chartered Bank, New Baneswor Branch. The document may be collected or, will promptly be sent by registered airmail. But, no liability will be accepted for loss or late delivery. For delivery through international courier an additional US$ 50 will be required.

7. Applications must be delivered to the address below at or before 15.00 hours on 19 January 2007. The Employer reserves the right to accept or reject late application.

8. The Employer will not be responsible for any costs or expenses incurred by Applicants in connection with the preparation or delivery of their Application.

9. The Employer will notify all Applicants in writing of the names of those Applicants who have been prequalified.
